2010: A Year in Pictures

As the year draws to an end, I think of all the wonderful memories that have become of it. It was a tiring but wonderful year. Below, I have a year in pictures. Every month with a picture that represents it.

January 2010

In January we visited Green Meadows Farm with Carli — something we thought she may enjoy. It was a chilly day out but she got to ride around in a wagon, which she enjoyed. She saw a boy her age there (who was pretty cute, if I remember correctly) and said, “hi” and then went to kiss him! It’s then we realized .. we really need to watch out for her! She is a flirt to the extreme (or just very friendly..)

February 2010

Is she not a ham, or what? Shortly after this she got very sick for the first time in her life. She woke up one morning not herself and then started throwing up repeatedly. She got her first UTI! It was from a new bubble bath we had just got to make bath time more fun. Needless to say, we never touched the stuff after that. She was quick to bounce back and was wonderful after she started taking medicine. Forrest was the most EXCEPTIONAL Dad during this time, too. I have an extreme OCD fear with vomit.. and Forrest ended up taking care of her during the worst of the illness (and got puked on about 5 times). He deserved a Dad of the Year award for that one.

March 2010

Carli developed a love for swings. Considering she was still too young to do a lot of what you see on the playground, the swings were about it at this time. She loved it and was content just swinging there for an hour if you’d let her!

April 2010

A girly girl at her finest, she loved rings and bracelets and most of all — Elmo.

May 2010

Here is Carli and my bestfriend Blair’s 4 year old daughter, Emmy. Carli just adores Emmy (who she calls “Ernie”). Emmy is very patient with her and they have a lot of fun. I think they get along so well because they are both pretty outgoing little girls. Blair was down to visit at this time, securing a place for her family to move into. They were moving down from Tallahassee. I was very excited to have my best friend close!

June 2010

Carli is now 2 years old, finally! Here she is again with Emmy. They reminded me of two pre-teens here, giggling and squealing and acting like .. well.. obnoxious. But it was cute anyway.. I just have to start preparing myself for a loud teenager in the future.

July 2010

Katelyn, my second daughter is born. I should have known she’d be a handful from the start when the first thing she does as they are pulling her out of my belly via c-section was pee all over me. *grin* Katelyn was 5lbs, 10oz and 18″ long. She was born at 10:09am at 37weeks, 2 days on July 13th 2010. She was a few days younger than Carli when Carli was born, but she was a whole 6 oz bigger! I decide with this baby that I am going to try my hardest and exclusively breastfeed. (And I do..)

August 2010

Katelyn develops a really nasty case of infant acne. It made taking pictures difficult because it was just so horrible. I’d look at pictures and just feel so bad for her! We ended up switching to DOVE SENSITIVE soap when we bathed ourselves just in case it was something on our skin. She cleared up within a week or so of us switching — but then again, it could have just been a coincidence.

September 2010

We drove up to Atlanta, GA for my friend Laura’s wedding. While we were there I was able to meet a wonderful friend, Joan and her son for the first time. We had met on a pregnancy birth board while we were pregnant with these two. We had been corresponding for about 3 years at this point so it was nice to finally meet each other in person!

October 2010

I admit it. I lived vicariously through my daughter. I found out later that it’s the same costume that Sarah Michelle Gellar’s daughter, Charlotte, wore that year — too. :) Carli was a very good Dorothy. Some day she’ll see the movie. I am saving the movie for when she’s 3. I think she’ll enjoy it — or at least, I hope as much as I did (and still do!)

November 2010

Carli has taken a huge interest in music lately, especially guitars. She must MUST take after her father (who is an amazing guitarist, himself!)

December 2010

Carli and Katelyn adore each other in the most precious way possible. The way Carli protects Katelyn and mothers her — just amazes me. The way Katelyn looks up at Carli and smiles like she’s the happiest sister in the world just makes my heart melt. I love watching these two, together. They make me both very happy.

And with that, our year has drawn to a close. What will 2011 bring?

GIVEAWAY: Cloth Diaper Cover by Dillon & Claire (Ends 1/04)

Company Description

Dillon & Claire is the adorable, eco-friendly & wallet friendly alternative to disposable diapers!

Review

I started making my own cloth diapers when Carli (my oldest) was around 6 months old. I was (and still am) addicted to purchasing patterns. I have a wonderful sewing machine and an “okay” serger. Even though I have sold many of my own creations, there is nothing like having someone make something specially for you.

I met Mari, the owner of Dillon & Claire on a diaper sewing board (yes, there is such a thing!) I bought a few of her newborn diapers when I was pregnant with Katelyn and I’ve been in love ever since. Dillon & Claire have THE best diapers known to man and anyone who would disagree otherwise have not tried them.

My Dillon & Claire NB Customs

I think I had around 8-10 Dillon & Claire newborn cloth diapers. Now that Katelyn has outgrown them, I sold them off and asked Dillon & Claire to make Katelyn some medium cloth diapers. I sent her a bunch of fabric that I wanted them made out of and she turned them around in just a few weeks (which is amazing). She did over 20 custom diapers for me in just a few weeks — the amount it would have taken me to do one custom diaper, she turned around and did 20 of them! (And in the middle of the holiday season, no less!)

Dillion & Claire Diapers is really great at customizing for your needs. Do you have a heavy wetter? Does your baby have sensitive skin? I requested that my diapers not have microfleece in the inside because I felt microfleece held in stinkies more and so she made them with the most luxurious velour. I love cotton velour — and she uses a wide variety of colors in her diapers. My favorite color being the black which looks so soft, smooth, and velvety!

The whole customs process is painless and this is a company that can be trusted. If you are looking for affordable cloth diapers that are amazingly well made, then you need to check out Dillon & Claire diapers on etsy. No one can compare!

Review

I love having my babies wear accessories. I love the “girly-girl” look on little babies and *gasp* I love big flowers on their head! The photographer in me loves accessories like this and I have been looking for a good place to shop for baby photo accessories and believe I have found the place — My Baby Clothes Boutique.

A few weeks ago I received a few accessories – 1 hat (as shown on my daughter in the picutre) and two clips. All for under $25. What a great deal! My Baby Clothes Boutique offers accessories from a variety of manufacturers. You never know what kind of deals you may find!

I loved the hat (Bubble Gum Pink Crochet Hat and White Daisy) we received. Wherever we go, she gets so many compliments on it. My only complaint (and it’s not the store’s fault, nor the manufacturer) is that the size starts at 3-18m rather than a newborn size. Kate’s head is tiny and she really needs a petite hat that will fit her perfectly. She’s almost 6 months (at least 3 months into the size requirement) and it’s still a tad bit and falls and covers her eyes sometimes!

After ordering my product, shipping was prompt and customer service was great! I would definitely purchase more accessories in the future — as there are so many that interest me!

Happy Holidays from Us to You :)

Did you have a nice holiday? Our family had a wonderful time together. For the first time — ever, we had Christmas morning somewhere other than my parent’s house. We had it at MY house. My parents took Carli Christmas Eve and brought her back Christmas morning at 8:30am. While Carli was too busy, I definitely enjoyed having all my family over! I even made some homemade raisin bread — which unfortunately, no one ate. (But at least they raved about my French bread the night before!)

Here are some pictures from our holiday together. It was Katelyn’s first Christmas! Big sister Carli made off like a bandit with so many goodies!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones!

*GIVEAWAY* Simply Fido Bamboo Rayon Nap Mat & Toy (Ends 1/07)

Product Description

New for 2010, the Simply Fido Bamboo Rayon Collection features Certified Non-Toxic, environmentally friendly toys and accessories for our furry friends. All of the items are colored naturally with plants and minerals using Simply Fido’s exclusive PureWaterWashTM process. The silky, bamboo rayon fabric is hand-dyed in chemical-free soy water that is purified before it is released back into nature.

The design team at Simply Fido chose bamboo rayon fabrics for this collection because bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials in the world. Bamboo trees release 35 percent more oxygen into the environment than any other tree or plant on Earth. They have very rapid re-growth and their long, strong roots help to hold the soil together and prevent erosion.

Simply Fido Bamboo Rayon Nap Mats are reversible and quilted for extra softness. They roll up easily for travel and are available in two color schemes–pink/yellow and green/yellow. Perfect for puppies, the Small Nap Mat measures 24″x19″ and retails for $34. Larger dogs will enjoy relaxing on the Medium Nap Mat that is 28″x20″ and has a suggested retail price of $40.

Happy Holidays from Simply Fido!

Review

I am quite familiar with bamboo products since I use a lot of bamboo velour in my sewing. I never even though to make any kind of pet product, though! When we received our package from Simply Fido, we received a bamboo nap mat (so absolutely soft!) and a squishy soft penguin toy. Our penguin toy actually looked somewhat different from the one you see if you follow the link. Ours is the image to the left (as you can see) and then you can see the difference in the one pictured. Oddly, I prefer the one I have!

We placed the very soft pink and yellow bamboo mat by the sliding glass door. The cats love laying in the sun, so this was the perfect spot. They definitely went to investigate and seemed to enjoy the mat just fine when all of the sudden — a soft penguin toy came flying at them.

My black siamese-mutt, Storm Shadow, attacked with utter cat abandon! She truly enjoyed that toy like nothing else. The only thing I wasn’t too happy about is that their sharp claws pilled at the soft material a little bit.

Although we received this over a week ago, we still see Storm kickboxing this penguin and carrying it around the house like a dead carcass. I would say that it was a successful toy introduction!

I really loved how soft these toys were. You wouldn’t even know they were for pets!  My 2.5 year old daughter, Carli, thought it was for her! I guess you can say they are products the entire family can love!

Purchase Information

You can purchase your own organic bamboo pet products at Simply Fido by using their store locator to find a store near you. The nap-mat (size medium) retails for around $34.00 and their toys start around $12.99 (on sale for the holiday via a retailer).

Win it!

Win your very own medium bamboo nap mat by Simply Fido along with a limited edition winter penguin toy! The value is around $50 total!

GIVEAWAY: Inspired By Finn Inspires “Relief” in Babies (Ends 12/31)

Product Description

These necklaces are made to wear, but not to chew!

Among other things, amber is a natural analgesic (pain reliever) and anti-inflammatory. When amber is worn on the skin, the warmth of the skin releases trace amounts of healing oils on the skin. Commonly known as “teething jewelry,” baltic amber has been a natural and traditional European remedy for teething discomfort for hundreds of years. To read more about the many benefits of baltic amber, click here.

Our necklaces are handcrafted and are made of authentic Baltic amber, the most esteemed type of amber in the world. The translucency of amber depends on the amount of air bubbles contained within a piece of amber and their distribution. Some believe the color is related to the type of tree source.

Succinic acid is the most beneficial component of the amber. It is scientifically accepted that the darkest colored amber generally contains less succinic acid than lighter colors. The more cloudy or opaque amber is, the more succinic acid it contains (and usually the more cloudy amber is the nearer to the color white it becomes).

The necklace fastens with a screw clasp, and the necklace cord is knotted in between each bead.

WARNING – Necklace contains small parts; Children should be supervised when wearing jewelry, and it should be removed when the child sleeps.

Review

Katelyn is now 5 months old and what did she get on her 5 month birthday? PINK EYE! Nasty ‘ol bacterial conjunctivitis. She has become very clingy and miserable (on top of her already teething pain!) I have heard that wearing Baltic Amber does so much, including helping the relief of:

  • Arthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Headaches & Migraines
  • Neck and shoulder discomfort
  • Tendonitis
  • Joint paint (associated with chemotherapy)
  • Menstrual Cramping
  • Teething Discomfort
  • Sensory Tissues
  • Growing Pains
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • TMJ
  • Orthodontic Brace Adjustments
  • … and more!

So knowing that it does all this for relief, I knew it was just what my baby needed to wear during this rather miserable teething & ill time. Normally I nurse her for comfort, but paired with a minor cold she has and teething (biting me, OW!) she is just miserable. Last night she cried and was fussy for well over an hour. We were ALL miserable.

We received infant baltic amber necklaces in the mail from a wonderful company called  Inspired By Finn (who are hosted on Hyena Cart). I have actually been interested in getting a teething necklace for quite some time. When I discovered Inspired by Finn, Carli (my first) was well past the teething stage. My best friend, Blair, though — had a daughter who was teething and she always had pictures of her youngest daughter wearing nothing but a cloth diaper and a teething necklace. It was adorable and I was hooked just then (and I hadn’t even tried it!)

Each necklace’s amber beads are tied individually. That way, if the necklace should break from force, only one bead my fall off (if even) and the rest will stay intact. This not only prevents you from losing the entire necklace, but also lessons the likelihood that pieces will get loose and you’ll be finding them in places around the house for months. This makes the necklace much safer for your child, hands down. Not only that — but each knot makes the necklace that much more secure.

Katelyn has been wearing her necklace now for a while and she has been mostly smiles. I can definitely see an improvement in her demeanor due to the soothing relief of the amber necklace!

I really like the fact that you can get them in bracelets and adult sizes too! Inspired by Finn doesn’t just offer “teething necklaces” for infants — you can get amber necklaces for anyone! I am prone to stress headaches, myself — so I definitely am looking into purchasing one for myself! In fact, I was thinking of getting this nursing necklace. Because Katelyn is teething, she is frequently biting me in efforts to sooth her own gums. Therefore, it hurts when she nurses! I think having my own nursing necklace on will not only give her something to look at while she nurses, but will help me in my own discomfort! Heck, had I known that Inspired by Finn offered jewelry for a variety of issues, I would have bought this necklace for reflux/heartburn while I was pregnant! (WOW!)

Purchase Information

You can purchase your own baltic amber jewelry from Inspired by Finn on their Hyena Cart (http://hyenacart.com/inspiredbyfinn/index.php?c=64&p=14913). Infant teething necklaces start as low as $20.95. It’s well worth it, the money you will save on other teething and pain remedies!

If you “LIKE” Inspired by Finn on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/InspiredByFinn) then you have the chance at getting first chance announcements of sales up to 50% off, giveaways, and more!  You can even save 20% on an immediate purchase by doing the following: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=339&uid=102544519787403 . What an awesome opportunity!

REVIEW: #84 Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever?

Title: Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever?
Author: Carmela La Vigna Coyle
Illustrated: Mike Gordon and Carl Gordon
ISBN: 1589795423
Pages: 32

Synopsis: (As taken from Amazon.com) In the first new Princesses book in four years, Carmela LaVigna Coyle celebrates friendship as two girls play dress-up, make forts from blankets and sheets, stomp in the mud, and generally do all the things that best friends do. Let’s make two bracelets with a double pink heart/And THEN we can wear them when we’re apart. I wish that our play date would never, ever end/That’s how it feels when you have a best friend.

Review

The book Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever is not particularly long. It’s the perfect size in length for4-6 year olds. That being said, the length of the book and the adorable graphics illustrated by a father and son team — will surely keep their attention.

The actual story itself is less than desirable. I just didn’t get it. We are introduced to Princess #1 who invites her new friend over. However when we meet her friend (Princess #2) they act as if they have never met. Then the story proceeds to be a series of “how can I make this rhyme” type of story. Yet the rhymes offer no real substance. For example:

Do Princesses sing on the way to the zoo?
Yes! Maybe my mom will sing along, too.

Alright.. sure? What is this really teaching me? How does it really flow with the earlier story? It doesn’t. Another one:

How do zookeepers pick up the poop? The zoo must own a very big scoop.

I mean, really? What does this have to do with Princesses having best friends forever? Because the title of the book is Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever? I’d like to see it be a book that answers the question. It doesn’t have to rhyme to gain a child’s attention, but if there are rhymes, they need to be clever.

Maybe a story of two princesses butting heads — letting their “royal” titles get in the way of their friendship. The things they do to each other when they are angry to up one another. Maybe someone getting their feelings hurt. Then their making up? I have no idea — but I would like to see it have a moral to the story and/or a real point in regards to the title.

A good story isn’t about the wonderful illustrations or the rhymes, but what the reader walks away from it remembering. What did they learn? Did it teach them a new concept like alphabet or numbers? Or did it teach them how to be polite or social manners of some sort? Is the book meant to be completely comical or satire in some way?

Either way the book falls flat on the actual story. However if you have a young reader, they may enjoy the illustrations, the fact that they are “princesses” (even self-titled) and they may giggle when the author says, “poop”.

Overall: The book is one you should get at the library. Something to borrow, but I wouldn’t purchase it myself.

GIVEAWAY: Melissa & Doug Toys $19.99 Value

MY THOUGHTS

As you can see, my daughter had an amazing time playing with The Melissa & Doug Sandwich Shop courtesy of GummyLump, a wonderful Toy store located out of Medford, NY. When the box came, the first thing my daughter said (or rather — squealed) “Ooh, TOYS!”

We have been desperately wanting a Melissa & Doug item for a while now. I’ve seen them in stores and have thought — wow, these toys are very well made and so uniquely adorable! I loved the fact that the Melissa & Doug toys are solid wood (not cheap plastic like you see with other companies). It really feels like they will have a life through multiple hands.

PURCHASE INFO

If you want your very own Melissa & Doug Sandwich shop, you can get it at Gummy Lump and it’s currently on sale for only $15.99!

http://www.gummylump.com/p/SandwichShopPlayFood/513

The Sandwich Shop is one of their best sellers! Seeing as how my daughter played with it NONSTOP for about two hours, I have no disbelief in this claim. It is well worth the full sale value of $19.99 from GummyLump and to know you can get it now on sale — wow!

Other Melissa & Doug products worth purchasing (as they are on my WISH LIST) are:

As you can see, I have a themed wish list. Carli has a big play kitchen we got off Craigslist but nothing to play in it. Needless to say we have a lot of “wants” for the food she plays with. But we want to make sure she plays with food that teaches her about healthy choices, too!

Luckily, at GummyLump, you have a variety of wonderful high quality kids toys to choose from!

ABOUT GUMMYLUMP

GummyLump specializes in wooden toys and building blocks and their tag line reads, “Toys that make sweet memories!” GummyLump is run by a work at home mother of two twin toddlers! (So now you understand why GummyLump has such great taste in toys — experience!)

My experience with the customer service of GummyLump was phenomenal. Each question was answered promptly and the delivery of the item was amazingly fast! This was my first experience ordering from GummyLump — before our transaction, I had never heard of them before. But now because I have had such a great experience, and they have ALL the Melissa & Doug toys I could EVER want and desire all in one place.. forget Toys ‘R Us or Amazon — I am shopping GummyLump! I only wish that Paypal was accepted for quicker transactions! (They do, however, accept most major credit cards!)

Fresh off the Skillet — Skillet Bacon Jam!

Skillet Food Products, LLC. (Seattle, WA)

Yes, you heard that correctly. Bacon and jam in the same title. Sounds kind of peculiar, doesn’t it? Since I have recently become interested in cooking a variety of different kinds of foods (and trying new things) I thought I would definitely try out this Skillet Bacon Jam.

First things first…

What IS Skillet Bacon Jam?

It’s not scary, I assure you. Skillet Bacon Jam is simply a condiment spread. Skillet Food Products, LLC. uses a niman ranch bacon with a little bit of onions, balsamic vinegar, and other various spices to give it a nice kick.

How exactly do you USE Skillet Bacon Jam?

When I got the product, I simply toasted a piece of bread to begin with. I placed a little warmed in the microwave SBJ and enjoyed the BBQ-like tany flavor. I definitely recommend heating the Jam prior to eating (although it tastes just fine at room temperature). It’s when it’s warm, however, that the real flavor and feeling of a good BBQ comes out and fills your senses. You can put it on a bun and enjoy it with a hamburger. Or you can use it on baked potatoes or grilled cheese sandwiches! The SBJ would taste fabulous in a good omelete as well. The different varieties of use are endless.

What was my overall opinion?

I really enjoyed the Skillet Bacon Jam. I am rather picky about my condiments but I think this is a great collection for its variety of uses alone. I thought it was sweet and smokey. I am not a huge BBQ fan, but I really enjoyed the Skillet Bacon Jam. My husband, on the other hand, wasn’t a fan. He stated it was, “Okay, but nothing special.” I completely disagreed with him. I hope he will give the SBJ another try, eventually.

If you are interested in finding out where to purchase Skillet Bacon Jam spread you can visit their website at http://www.skilletbaconjam.com or email them at eat@skilletstreetfood.com .

Google, oh Google! Where did you put my page rank?

You would think with a company as huge HUGE as google that they would have a live customer service representative. I mean — they have SLIDES in their office building. I thought, if anything, customer service reps would be readily available.

This morning I came to the huge stressor of seeing that my page rank went from a proud 4, to an “N/A”. What in the heck does that mean? Usually when you see an “N/A” it MEANS the website is new and hasn’t been indexed. Well, Well-Read Reviews has been proudly on the web since August of 2009 and up until (now) I was a proud PR of a 4. In fact, that is how I got a lot of my review products. “Hey – I am a PR 4. What can I do for YOU?!”

So I go to apply for a pretty cool product today and it says, “Sorry your page rank isn’t high enough.” What the? I go to check my PR and it says “N/A”. Now, what other reasons could this be? Around, but not indexed? No — I’ve been indexed before. Another option says that my page could be recognized as a supplemental page.

What does it even MEAN to be a supplemental page and why suddenly would it be POSSIBLE that google has me listed as a supplemental page? It could be because there were other giveaways around the same time as mine and there are some duplicate content. For example, the iron giveaway and or the Zutano giveaway. I wasn’t the ONLY person giving them away. Does google think I am a duplicate?

I am not!

Another option is being banned — but that doesn’t even make sense. There is NO reason for that as I am completely 100% honest and legit in my SEO work for Well-Read Reviews. I work hard and I thought it was paying off. But now, google is doing me in. Come on — google! Where is the LOVE?!

So if you are a potential PR representative and company, I assure you — I *am* a PR 4. Google is on the fritz right now and I am trying to figure out what happened. Please bare with me!

REVIEW: The ULTIMATE Swaddler by Peawee Baby

About Peawee Baby:

Taken from their website:

Hi!  My name is Tamara and I’m the owner of Pea Wee Baby™ LLC.  I’m also the creator of the SwaddleBuddy™ series of swaddles and swaddle accessories.

I’m married to the best guy in the world and am a part-time WOHM to 2 girls aged 12 years apart, a brand new baby boy, along with 2 Great Danes and a cat.  I’m an accountant by trade, but since my youngest daughter was born, dreaming up swaddle designs has been my passion.

Pea Wee Baby™ LLC was born out of necessity.  My newborn daughter was a swaddle houdini, and I was desperate for a decent stretch of sleep.  Once I found something that worked for us, I had to put it out there for other mamas with their own swaddle houdinis!

My oldest daughter noticed that our baby girl’s initials (PWE) sounded out was Pee Wee.  Combining that with the image of a baby swaddled in a pea pod and Pea Wee Baby was born!

I’m extremely excited about our products!  If you have any questions, please contact me at tamara@peaweebaby.com and I’ll be happy to help!

Tamara, the owner of Peawee Baby graciously sent me one of her SwaddleBuddy Suits when she knew I was in need of a good swaddler. The SwaddleBuddy Suit is different than your ordinary Swaddler. This information below is taken from her website:

The SwaddleBuddy™ Suit is guaranteed to keep your houdini baby swaddled!  The arm restraint keeps the arms comfortably at the sides while the exterior wrap provides the comfort of being swaddled.  Unlike other swaddles that wrap the arms, the SwaddleBuddy™ Suit uses hook and loop to prevent the arms from becoming unwrapped by an especially wiggly swaddle houdini.  The Suit option keeps the upper portion of the swaddle in place and is perfect for use in swings and bouncy seats.  The hook and loop opening allows for super easy access for diaper changes without having to unswaddle.

This adorable swaddle is made of your choice of 100% cotton interlock.

Size Small will fit most babies up to approximately 15 lbs.

Size Large will fit most babies from approximately 15 lbs until they no longer require swaddling.

I was extremely, extremely excited to be able to try out the PeaWee SwaddleBuddy Suit. I was laying in bed talking to my husband about how Katelyn was frequently awaking herself by busting out of her current name-brand swaddler. Then because Katelyn loves to be swaddled as she rocks, it makes for a less secure swinging experience when I can’t properly place the buckle around her waist and between her legs.

“I think it would be really awesome if a swaddler had the option of allowing the legs to go free.” I even debating (being able to sew myself) coming up with my own if there wasn’t one on the market. Miraculously, I somehow stumbled upon Tamera’s creation, the Peawee SwaddleBuddy Suit. I was all sorts of excited!

When the suit arrived, I instantly put it on Katelyn. She smiled the widest smile and so I placed her in her swing. I loved that I was able to secure her in the swing now that the legs were free! Being a little chilly, I put a warm blanket over her legs and Katelyn smiled and cooed and stared at herself in the swing’s mirror hanging above.

Within 15 minutes, she was fast asleep where she remained asleep for a good 4 hours or so. She slept absolutely brilliantly. Since the arrival of my swaddler at the beginning of the week, I have been using it for naps and for sleeping at night and I absolutely, undeniably love it. Katelyn looks very happy and content being swaddled in the SwaddleBuddy Suit and it feels secure but not overly tight. This swaddler is amazing and I am telling all my friend’s about it who have newborns!

So if you are a mother of a newborn, or know someone who is having a baby — get a PeaWee SwaddleBuddy product. You will absolutely love it as much as I do!

*GIVEAWAY* Neatnik Saucer (Eat with your infant!) Ends 11/27

From their press release:

Dining out with baby no longer needs to be messy, stressful experience. A mother-daughter team from Houston, Texas, has a solution for “neatniks” everywhere.

The “Neatnik Saucer” is their patented, 3-in-one invention that keeps baby tidy and happy while eating at a restuarant, says co-inventor and mom Danielle Batchelor. “It’s an integrated high chair liner, placemat, and germ barrier that covers everything within baby’s reach.”

With Netnik Saucer in place, Mom can relax knowing that dirty high chairs and tables are no longer a health risk. The sturdy rim and toy fasteners keep food and play things off the ground, eliminating parent frustration and embarrassment over spills and dropped toys. High chair straps fit th rough openings in the seat liner and sh ould always be used to secure baby in the seat.

Stylish and safe, Neatnik Saucer is available in a variety of water-resistant fabrics that are easily cleaned with disinfectant baby wipes or soap and water. It measures 28 inches in diameter to define baby’s space at the table, yet collapses easily for storage in the matching 12 inch square carry bag with pocket for essentials.

With a suggested retail price of $32.95, a Netnik saucer is recommended for ages 6 months to 3 years. The product fits all standard restaurant high chairs and some boosters and c hairs intended for home use. It is available for purchase online and at specialty stores across North America. For store locations, please visit: http://www.neatniksaucer.com.

The Neatnik Saucer is an innovative idea. We all know that infants and toddler’s alike are not the neatest eaters. In fact, they are sloppy and can be an embarrassment if you should ever look at the floor when you leave a restaurant.

I know that personally I have gotten on my hands and knees to pick up all the stuff my firstborn (who is now a toddler) has thrown down on the floor. I also really enjoyed the fact that it was something that was a barrier between the child and the seat. I am a complete germaphobe. There is nothing worse than a young child who is sick and they get sick so easily by putting their hands on something dirty or germ filled and then putting their hands in their mouth. ACK! It drives me NUTS!

The Neatnik Saucer comes folded neatly in a little carrying case, which is small enough to fit in the average diaper bag. Upon initial view, I was a tad disappointed. But only because I was expecting the base to look different. For some reason I had in my mind that the base in which they sit was made of a canvas, thicker, more padded material. It’s not. It’s made from a thin water resistant material that you can easily wipe with a damp cloth to clean.

On one hand, I really understand why it was made of this material. But I know my daughter and what if she had an accident that would require a good washing and not just a wipe down? I would like to see the Neatnik in the future that allows the base to be separate from the saucer for these specific type accidents.

The saucer itself is very large with plenty of room to put a plate and toys. There are velcro strands on the side in which you can velcro toys (looped toys) to the  mat so a child can play with them, but not throw them on the floor either. (I really liked that idea!) The straps are velcro, though — and maybe it’s the picky mom in me, but I think it would be nicer to make those straps the same material as the seat base with a snap, rather than velcro. I think it would look neater. :) (But that’s just me!)

It should also be known that the saucer is large and not a good fit if you are at a smaller table. I know that often when we were a family of three, we would sit at a two seater and then have Carli on the end. The saucer would undeniably take up everyone’s own “space” and may be more of an annoyance than a help. In fact the restaurant we went to had a small table and the saucer was too large to fit everyone comfortably. But if you are at an average 4 person restaurant table and have some room to skoot, this will be wonderful help to your dining out experience!

Neatnik is giving away a Neatnik saucer to a lucky family!

REVIEW: #83 Fragile by Chris Katsaropoulos

Title: Fragile
Author: Chris Katsaropoulos
ISBN: 978-1935462279
Pages: 212

Synopsis: (Taken from back of book) Amelia Geist, Holly Schenck, and Tris Holloway are all broken — in one way or another.

In a lifelong act of penitence and defiance, Amelia Geist has remained a virgin and saved herself for Tris, her first love, who abandoned her more than fifty years ago.

A few weeks from retirement, Tris Holloway has led a separate life of his own in the hills above Silicon Valley, sealed by inertia within the confines of a loveless marriage and shattered by his decision to leave Amelia.

The only person who can repair the rift between Tris and Amelia is Holly, a single mother without means, who is trying somehow to mend her life while laid out in a hospital bed, a victim of her own suicide attempt.

The stories of Tris, Holly, and Amelia are presented in Fragile as broken fragments, woven together by profound truth and an astonishing connection that transcends the boundaries between this world and the next.

Review:

A big no-no was committed while writing this book, forgetting your POV. One minute the book is being written in third person and not entirely bad at all. We are introduced to a woman named Holly who does hair. It goes on to describe how an older woman comes in wanting something special done for a reunion party she is going to. She wants to look fabulous. Then without notice the book switches to first person (in the view of the old woman) and then switches back to third person.

I got to read about 10 pages and I couldn’t do it. Is the book written in first person or third? I felt as if I was in the mind of a person with multiple personalities because the book had no idea which point of view it was taking. I had no idea who I was as a reader, or what I was reading about. It got to be too confusing that I had no other option than to put it down.

I think the author needs to decide — is the story first or third before I can continue. I even skimmed the book and it was all through out the novel. One minute first and the next third. This just cannot be done. No way. No how. Fragile by Chris Katsaropoulos needs a major overhaul.

I also wonder if I read the same book as the reviews on Amazon. Painted in such a fabulous light — did not one person realize that the author broke a cardinal rule of writing, faulty point of view?

I wouldn’t mind reading Fragile in the future, but only after the author decides the point of view of the characters in the story.

Getting into the Holiday Spirit with Pier 1

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pier 1 Imports. All opinions are 100% mine.

I absolutely love and adore Pier 1 Imports. Since we have moved into a new place, I have the incredible urge to both decorate and entertain. Because the holiday season has approached us, there will be plenty of opportunities to entertain! But — do I have the decor that says, “Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays?” Not at all.

Pier 1 - $8.95 to $12.95

I tend to bargain shop and I have noticed that Pier 1 has a lot of incredible deals, even with the holiday decor that has yet to pass (Christmas & Thanksgiving). Not everything is expensive. I would say that Pier 1 was pretty affordable! Now, if I were to decide exactly what I wanted in my home, I would probably chose a few of the following deals. For one, I think it is important that everyone has a tier of some kind. Forrest makes amazing food and probably the best cookies you will ever eat. I can just imagine having a glass tier in our house full of baked goodies. Some of Forrest’s amazing chocolate-peanut-butter-orange cookies, and maybe some of my parent’s old fashioned sugar cookies that we made as a child, all cut from various shapes. But we could also use the glass pier for various other finger foods such as fruits and vegetables; pieces of cheese and bread. The reason I really want one of these is because there are so many endless possibilities with what you can use it with and you’ll always find a need to use when when entertaining. What is great is that you can get one, at most, $12.95 from Pier 1.

Personally, I think that piece is the #1 “must-have” piece for all holiday entertaining needs this holiday season. There are some really affordable items from Pier 1 that would make wonderful gifts for loved ones, including: Assorted Silver Mosaic Stocking Holders – I am in Florida and not many houses come with fireplaces anymore. But where to hold our stockings? I thought these ( and only at $14.95 for a set of 3) was an adorable, affordable, and thoughtful gift. I really would like this set, myself! I would place them on the half wall near my kitchen and dining room, a great place to put up stockings for the holiday season! For the quality and price, I would say that it’s a pretty great bargain!

Damask Mug & Spoon - $5

This elegant Damask mug with spoon – If you’re in the workplace, and you have a co worker who enjoys their morning coffee (or warm beverage) I think this would be a beautiful and appreciated gift. Maybe I am just partial to damask patterns, but this really caught my eye. You can even put a gift pack of hot chocolate and chocolates in it. Or find out their favorite candy and put it in the mug. (Or maybe they are a tea drinker?) Maybe you can even present the gift in this reusable damask bag? I guess you can say I am a damask bag — but how can you really go wrong with damask? To say that any one item represented my taste or style would not be accurate. I think I enjoy Pier 1 because it’s so eclectic. On one hand you have very modern fixtures, but you can switch it up to some Asian inspiration, or take a little trip to Paris. There is not one style appreciated — I enjoy them all.

The one thing I didn’t know is that Pier 1 is a participant in the Toys for Tots program and if you are wanting to donate, you can go to their store and drop off some toys at the front register. I’ve been shopping at Pier 1 for years and never knew this! Also, if you don’t already like Pier 1 on Facebook, you can Like them and in the months from November to December, they’ll donate $1 for the Toys for Tots program for every like. (That’s what I hear and how I understand it.) I figure — while you are already there (saving some good money on decor to get your family into the holiday spirit) why don’t you drop off a toy for a tot in need and help them have a great holiday as well

Gearing up for #NaNoWriMo

2010

Last year I failed miserably. It just so happens I was suffering from morning sickness. There is nothing like nausea to take away your creative spark. This year, though, I am determined to do better. Granted that now I battle my time between two kids (toddler and an infant), a few blogs, photography business, AND a husband.. well, it’s going to be rough.

Yesterday I managed to write just a few pages. I had to finish up a set of images from a photoshoot for their holiday portraits. Since the holidays are soon approaching, I really have to bust my butt and get those photos done asap for my clients. Since I am all caught up, now maybe I can focus on writing during the kids naptime.

Katelyn usually naps from 11:30-3ish and Carli usually naps from 12:00-2:30-ish. I say that gives me at least a good two hours today to work on Under Every Stone (my working title). My goal is to get 1,000 words today, plus what I missed yesterday.

Let’s make that happen!
