This meme is hosted by Booking Through Thursday Blog. This week’s question is,
“Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?”
To my recollection, I do not believe I have ever lied about a book I’ve read. (That is – if you do not count high school required reading). There were many books in high school that I just sort of half-assed my away through them. There is nothing like being FORCED to read something in a certain time period. (As if we didn’t have 5 other classes, plus extra curricular activities to be worrying about…)
The one book that I said I read, which didn’t (in all honesty) is Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter”. It was just a horrendous, headache of a read for a high school student. Whether it is an accurate memory or not – all I can remember about this book was a chapter on the description of a tree. Will I ever read this book again? Probably – but on my own accord and my own time table.

I love reading… I can honestly say that I don’t thin I’ve ever lied about reading a book, even in high school. From what I can remember I don’t think we were ever really assigned actual books to read other than To Kill A Mockingbird.

Like you, I don’t think I’ve ever lied about reading any books, except for in school! I did do all my required reading in high school because I really enjoyed the class discussions. In college, however, I just didn’t have time to read everything assigned for freshman lit and barely skimmed each book enough to be able to pull out some quotes and write papers! To this day, I have no idea what Moll Flanders was about. I did go back many years later and read The Stranger by Camus, just to see what I had missed. It was much more interesting reading it on my own than as a harried student just trying to get through a class!

Don’t think I’ve ever out & out lied about reading a book, though I did make use of Cliffs Notes during high school English. As my teachers never asked if we actually read the book, I didn’t have to lie. *L*

I don’t lie about having read books I really didn’t either. And in my college years I admit I skipped some books but there was no need to lie about it either so I guess I have lucked out
