My 2 year old Carli loves to read. I mean absolutely loves it (it’s obvious who she gets that from, hehe). I was given the chance to review a book from Little Wonder Company, Inc. who does personalized children’s books.
In my lifetime, I have never had my own personalized book although they have been available since I was a child. I always thought the idea of having yourself made into a literary character and becoming one with the book was really neat. I was very excited to be able to make that a reality for my daughter and give her something that she can appreciate for years to come.
Ordering a book from Little Wonder Company ,Inc. is really easy (and really fun!). You register and create an account (like any other website) and then you get to create your characters. You can create a boy or girl. You can decide their skin color, face shape, hair (both color and hair styles) as well as eye color (I believe eye shape) and a few other details like freckles, etc.
Originally I chose medium skin because Carli’s Italian heritage has given her a very olive complexion in which people are always asking if she’s “been out in the sun”. She’s quite tan! Leslie, the author, very quickly emailed me to let me know that the medium/tan skin tone was actually a bit darker than it looks on the website and I may want to actually switch to the fair. We discussed her possibly adding an olive variation in there as a few clients of hers have children with the same skin tone. Not quite fair but not quite dark. I do hope that is something that she’ll add in the future, as well as more variations with eye coloring.
But anyway — it was close enough. In the book we are able to
choose if we want to make a dedication. I wrote the first thing that came to me, telling my toddler that she’s the “best adventure we’ve ever taken” (and it’s true.) I couldn’t imagine a bigger adventure than creating and raising a child into a respectable and compassionate human being.
After we ordered, we had our customized children’s book in about a week. (It may have been less but I was in the middle of moving and hadn’t checked my mail until we got settled). For something that requires customization, the shipment time was phenomenal.

After I opened it out of the packaging, Carli instantly went, “Ooh book!” and so I handed it to her in the car and she “read” it all the way home. She gave me the stink eye if I tried to take it form her, even to help her read it. She wanted none of my help. She wanted Little Girl Wonder to herself! I could understand that. If I had a book of me as the heroine , I wouldn’t want to give that up to just anybody either.
When we got home, she carried it around with her as if it was her pride and joy, a recording of her life’s accomplishments. I was very happy that I was able to “give” her this book and I think Little Wonder Company for allowing me the opportunity to try out their personalized book product.
