The hotel itself was absolutely gorgeous. I think our jaw dropped maybe once or twice (or three times). The top of the line black matte Audi out front (easily worth more than our house was) parked out front was enough to impress Forrest. (He’s a typical guy. What can I say?) We stopped by the front desk and got our key, which we needed in order to actually use the elevator. I am not exactly why the Grand Bohemian has it so you cannot use the elevator without the swipe key. Forrest seemed to think that it was to prevent you from going on an unauthorized floor? Anyone know?
I was the first appointment for the day, I believe. The spa was very unlike what I expected. I think most people think tropical oasis when they think “spa” with light colored walls and such. Instead the walls were a warm mustard brown and the room filled with dark purple colored furniture. It definitely went along with the whole “Bohemian” theme of the hotel. It was just beautiful. The atmosphere was a bit dark, but I think it was meant to contribute to the soothing feel and to invite total relaxation.
First up was my 40 minute massage including a relaxing scalp treatment. I think my favorite part, though, was the face massage as the masseuse applied pressure to my sinuses (which have been bothering me) and it feel like I finally had a bit of relief. Two days of sinus headaches are exhausting — let me just tell you that. After my massage I was given to someone else in a different room where I was delighted to receive a pedicure. (Believe me, I needed it!) I picked out a bright pink color for my toes and for a few minutes felt like I was on vacation in my own home town.
After we got home, I went to nurse Katelyn and realized my right breast was still infected and inflamed after Katelyn (teething) bit me earlier in the week and drew blood. (Ouch!) I started an antibiotic on Wednesday and by Friday it hadn’t gotten any better. In fact it looked worse so my doctor called in another antibiotic for me to take as well (on top of the earlier one). She prescribed me Bactrim which is supposedly knocks out some resistant infections. I’ve taken two doses of Bactrim so far but then I noticed it was getting worse (it appeared) so we went to the hospital (as per my Drs request) and the ER doctor diagnosed it as cellulitis which is an infection of the skin. (joy) So it wasn’t just a nasty bout of mastitis — but a full blown skin infection. (Thanks, Kate!)
So I think the reason maybe it wasn’t getting better was because Katelyn tears off the scab of the bite wound each time she nurses and reinfects it with her mouth bacteria. (I swear breastfeeding is not so complicated and gross most of the time!) So I got two shots in the butt (they say “hip” but it is so the butt.) I was instructed to keep taking my dual antibiotics and pump on the infected side to minimize re-exposure to the mouth bacteria until my breast is fully healed. Hopefully it will be better soon.
If it gets any worse then I have to go back and most likely will be receiving around the clock IV antibiotics. I’ve heard of some people in the hospital for DAYS. (I sure hope it doesn’t come to that). Dr. said it’s in the early stages so I guess I should be relieved somewhat. I am just trying to not invest too much time in Dr. Google. It scares me. (Don’t look!)
I know that many would choose to stop breastfeeding at this point with the teething and being so close to one, but it’s not happening. Especially not with Katelyn’s food allergies. She’ll need me for a while, yet!
