Synopsis: (Taken from back of the book)

There’s only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with (at least voluntarily) and that’s Bill. But recently he’s been a little distant – in another state distant. His sinister and sexy boss, Eric, has an idea where to find him. Next thing Sookie knows, she is off to Jackson, Mississippi to mingle with the under-underworld at Club Dead. It’s a dangerous little haunt where the elitist vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some type O. But when Sookie finally finds Bill – caught in an act of serious betrayal – she’s not sure whether to save him.. or sharpen some stakes.

Review:

While reading, it makes the reader believe that Sookie catches him in the act of betrayal and then wants to sharpen some stakes and THEN has to decide whether or not she is going to save him. It doesn’t exactly happen like that. I think the synopsis sort of let the reader to believe that the sequence of events and emotions happened a little more dramatically. The way I read it, and understood – was that Bill insisted he had to go on a business trip out of town and asks Sookie that if anything shall happen, he’s hidden some important documents in his sleep hole at her house under the floorboards. She expects Bill to come back, but he doesn’t.  He goes missing. Although initially on purpose, more dramatic and dangerous reasons are behind it. It isn’t exactly the obvious “Lover gone running” type situation. Although it certainly appears to be the case.

Friends/colleagues (whatever you care to call them) tell Sookie that Bill has made arrangements to take care of Sookie financially since he will be unable to return. Turns out that he has taken a relationship with another vampire (which we can all gather from the back cover). Before Sookie even knows of said affair, she mentions wanting to sharpen the stakes. Even though she is upset by his “buying his way out” by caring for her, and of his relationship with someone else, Sookie still agrees to go look for him.  The way the back cover portrays the sequencing is a bit off (Searches for Bill THE catches him.. yadda yadda). So it kind of bothered me that it was misleading like that. But – anyhow, a little thing to really be annoyed with in the grand scheme of things.

Eric insists that while Sookie is on her quest to find Bill that she stay with a werewolf (who is indebted to the vampires) as he will protect her. Enter Alcide. Oh, perfect, strong, handsome, romantic, ruggid, naive.. Alcide. You cannot help but fall absolutely head over furry tail in love with the guy. Bill who? Well – I never really liked Bill anyway. To me (and this is a personal opinion here) but Alcide can provide much more for Sookie than Bill ever could. They could fall to sleep together, wake up together the next morning. He will eat what she cooks. So what if he’s a werewolf? It’s damn sexy, if you ask me.

What I like about this continuing story in the Sookie Stackhouse series is that, by now – you’re already so involved in their lives. You know the characters. You know what they’re capable of – at least, you think. Then something always happens. Magic, love, lust. Just when you think you know who you want Sookie to end up with, another amazing guy comes into the picture. Okay, so I am a fan of Alcide. You will too. Their friendship and mutual understanding in this novel has much to be desired and developed. I cannot wait to see what is in store with Alcide in future Sookie Stackhouse installments.

Although it wasn’t the most exciting of all – you will love the characters, their interactions and the development of all relationships between vampires, humans, werewolves, and shifters alike. Another interesting, can’t-put-down read to add to your growing Sookie Stackhouse collection.
