I had a bit of the same feeling when I read this one; it wasn’t bad, but I never got really “hooked” to the story. Are you planning on reading the sequel? I still haven’t decided whether I want to or not.

I’m not normally into books about witches and magic, but the plot description on this one sounds really good. It’s too bad that it didn’t make it to your favorites.
