I received these cookies (appropriately named Smiley Cookie) in the mail for a review very shortly after I agreed to stuff my mouth full of sweets
. (Talk about great customer service and prompt shipping times!) The cookies come in an adorable box covered in brightly colored smilies. How can you not already appreciate such a positive product?
I happened to be at my mother’s office with my daughters as well as my father so there were plenty of people available to test it out (of varying ages) minus my youngest who is only a few days shy of 2 months and obviously is too young for solids. However my 2 year old, Carli, was happy to oblige.
The first thing Carli said was “MMm!” The cookie, bigger than her head (I kid) was a huge treat for my little one, who I don’t normally let herself indulge in sugary treats. However to see my smiley 2 year old not only appreciate the big happy face on the cookie and the cookie itself, well — that was a treat to me as well!
When I took a bite, however, I didn’t know what to think. They were thinner than I had thought they would be, with more crunch. Normally I am a “soft” cookie enthusiast. I love my cookies soft. They weren’t particularly flavorsome. They didn’t taste much like anything, for the most part. They weren’t bad but they weren’t what I had hoped. In my opinion, it has the cute factor down — but they need a little bit more taste. Maybe some more vanilla or a butter-like taste to them. They were simply “fine”.
On the directions, though, it said they freeze well and you can even pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to soften them up. When I got home, I figured I would try that. I would try and see if softening up would make a difference to my taste buds.
I figured correctly.
I popped them in the microwave for 30 seconds. A bit hot to the touch, but they broke easily in your hands and it was then it seemed flavor seemed to pop out of them. I definitely think that these cookies were MADE to be warm. In fact, they are quite good warmed up and now I am eager for another. Instead, though, I have placed the rest of them in a plastic bag in the freezer and I will take one out in a day and see how it “reheats”. Then a week. Then a month. Then a few months. I am really going to test to see how well these cookies keep in the freezer.
Now, another GREAT thing about these custom designer cookies is that you can go online and design them exactly the way you want it — the colors, the shapes, the quantity. You can order them in packages for special occasions; brightly colored flowers for mother or match the cookies for your wedding day souvenirs.
Your kids will have so much fun designing the cookies to their specification(s). The custom cookies start at 1dz for only $12.99 which I think is a great deal since they are delivered directly to your home. At just a little over a $1 per cookie, it’s worth it if it places a smile on the face of someone you love. They even offer Cookie Gift Baskets. What’s better than cookie gifts??
Even though they aren’t drop everything amazing while out of the box, they are definitely delightful with a little warmth and are worth a try.
