It seems to be the new thing, you know?
Step 1 – Select a popular book series.
Step 2 – Turn it into a TV show.
Hey – I am not complaining!
In this day and age, it’s a perfect thing to keep the momentum going. It also turns otherwise regular tv watchers into the, “I can’t wait to find out what happens next, I must read the book and find out for myself!” type. Whatever gets people to read – I have no problem with that!
The only issue that I have found so far is – not everyone has cable! I love TV, don’t get me wrong – but it’s one of the cut backs we’ve had to make financially to be able to afford other luxuries. Unfortunately this causes me to miss out on these tv shows! How can I be in the “know” with other book lovers, without also having watched the tv show? Seems to go hand in hand. If it wasn’t for watching True Blood, I may have not given the Sookie Stackhouse series another try and continued to read Living Dead in Dallas (book 2). Because of the TV show, I saw the series in a whole new light. I am now officially a huge fan of the series, as well as the tv show. How many books would I have missed out on had I not seen just a few episodes of True Blood on HBO?
So this has me think, what else am I missing out on? It seems there is another tv show called The Vampire Diaries, based after the books of course – that I have missed out on. I haven’t read the books yet, but maybe watching a few episodes of the tv show will help gain some enthusiasm for trying out yet another vampire series. But – was there a way to watch these shows online legally as I no longer have cable tv?
I found a website called Spreety (not sure if you’ve heard of it) that allows you to do a search of popular shows and shows you where you can watch free tv online. I decided to give it a try and typed in The Vampire Diaries. (What could it hurt, right?) It was nice because although it had a character limit and I couldn’t fit the entire title in, it knew which one I was searching for.
It brought me to their sub-link where they show you the main tv image and it gives you some facebook links, twitter links (if you want to tweet about it) as well as a direct link to go directly to the main website. The main website brought me to where I could watch full episodes, and not just clips! I thought it was pretty neat. I also like the fact that from the shows I looked up, they are hosted on the production companies main website, so it doesn’t feel like I am doing something illegal by watching TV online! (It’s perfectly legal – and such a plus for those who don’t have TV at home!)
I just thought I would share the new find for those who may be interested in catching up on some highly discussed shows!

I wouldn’t say it’s a new thing – I mean <em>Roswell</em> was based on the <em>Roswell High</em> books, <em>Eastwick</em> was the second attempt at making a TV show based on the books, <em>Dexter</em> has been around for a few years, and years ago there was <em>Animorphs</em> on Nick – plus there are countless TV miniseries, and short British TV series adaptations based on books (<em>Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy</em>) etc. Those are the examples I can think of off-hand, it’s just books tend to go to big-screen adaptations which are more direct in following the books (hopefully), whereas TV shows use it as a base and then go on their own way/expand things.
