We’re quite proud to announce.. SURPRISE!

Brought home 9-07-2011

We have been holding onto a big secret for the past few months. It’s been one of the most difficult secrets to keep,  as my husband and I were so incredibly happy of the news that we wanted to shout it from the roof tops. What is the secret, you ask? Well, we have adopted a little girl.

Vega is her name, named after one of the brightest stars in the sky. Coming  from a rather large family, Vega had 3 sisters and 3 brothers. While it may not seem like a lot, it was not something her mother could handle; not indefinitely. So we were blessed with the gift of receiving and loving her for ourselves and our family for a lifetime. Vega had a wonderful start at life in Dayton, Tennessee. Her caregivers were a lovely couple with two full grown children of their own. Dr. Jeffrey Nix and his wife, Callie, took very good care of Vega and her brothers and sisters until Vega was ready to come home.

Vega’s flight was scheduled to arrive at 6:38pm. We were anxious all day, excited for the evening when we could pick her up at the airport.  Waiting for her was like waiting for a pot on the stove that just won’t boil. It was torture and felt like an eternity.

Forrest plugged in her flight details to an iphone app so he could receive notifications. When we were made aware that her flight left early, we were so excited!  Maybe we could see her even EARLIER! When the airline landed in Atlanta, for a small layover, we were sad to be notified that the plane was running late. It got pushed back to 7:00 — then 7:30. We were absolutely devistated. We decided that, no matter what, we would leave our home at 6:15 and wait at the airport for hours, if we had to.

5:30 I received a phone call  from the airlines, telling us that she had arrived early — at 5:15pm. WHAT?! That was an hour earlier than the original quoted time. They had put her on a different plane to get her to us even earlier. Wow! Thanks, Delta! Though because we weren’t made aware of the change until after the fact, we hadn’t even left our house yet — and the airport was about 40 minutes away! Oh, and it was raining, and RUSH HOUR in Orlando. Fun.

We finally arrived at the airport to pick Vega up and luckily we did not have to wait long at all! When one of the airline employees carried her out, we knew it was love at first sight. Hello, Beautiful! Vega was quite dark, with these soulful brown eyes that looked at us as if she knew exactly what we were saying even though English was not her first language. I touched her and she was so incredibly soft. We were in awe. Forrest couldn’t stop grinning and that, alone, made it all worth it.

Vega was meant to be with us.

Our first night together was wonderful. Carli and Katelyn absolutely adore her and laugh with pure joy when they are near.  That makes me very happy to see. :) Vega slept between Forrest and I last night, only waking up at 2:30am — which was great. I couldn’t complain. I am quite used to getting up at all hours of the night as I have had very few full nights of sleep since Katelyn was born, a year ago.

This morning I took some pictures of her. She’s just too cute and I couldn’t announce her arrival without a picture, right?

Meet Vega

They REALLY are! I think that Vega believes Carli to be the boss. She follows after her in a doberman like heel. She comes when Carli calls her.. Carli is the boss.. (But who is surprised about that?? LOL!)

  5. Nikki-ann says:

LOL You really had me going! I thought you’d adopted a child rather than a dog! Still, a dog is every pit a part of a family as anyone else and Vega is so adorable! I imagine she’ll want to sleep between you every night from now on :)
